We’re stepping up to help our new neighbors settle in.
Starting a new life isn’t easy. That's why Lions are stepping up to provide key resettlement services in partnership with local refugee agencies through the Engage to Change Co-sponsorship Initiative. By working together, we can help families get started. Here’s a brief overview of how it works:
- Participating Lions clubs are matched with local resettlement agencies to provide core integration services to a refugee family over a period of 3-10 months through co-sponsorship.
- Co-sponsorship is a form of community sponsorship in which individuals from a club, faith, employee or other group join together to welcome a refugee family in close collaboration with a local resettlement office.
- Working alongside expert refugee resettlement staff, Lions receive training and guidance to provide services such as airport pick-up, home setup, job support, assistance accessing health services, finding English language classes and other support.
- Participating clubs may apply for up to US$15,000 in grant funding to help cover resettlement costs.

This is a big undertaking, but there is support to help Lions every step of the way. Lions International is mobilizing to provide direct support, training and assistance to participating clubs.
