Diabetes Education and Camping Association (DECA)

DECA is the world’s only association of diabetes camps.  It provides networking and resources to enhance and expand diabetes camp programs worldwide. Access the “Lions Club” section in the "Friends & Partners" menu on the DECA website to learn more about getting involved with diabetes camping or resources to improve your existing camp programs. You will also find a list of worldwide camps.  Simply visit the DECA website and register.  All Lions must use this password when registering:  DECALIONS  (The password must be entered in ALL CAPS.)

International Diabetes Federation (IDF)

The mission of IDF is to promote diabetes care, prevention and a cure worldwide. World Diabetes Day (November 14) is led by IDF and its more than 200 member organizations around the globe.  You can find a wealth of information covering seven regional areas including:  Africa, Europe, Middle East and North Africa, North America and Caribbean, South and Central America, South East Asia and Western Pacific. Access the website to find contact information for your country’s diabetes association.

MedicAlert Foundation

Lions Clubs International and MedicAlert Foundation have partnered to protect and save lives.   MedicAlert Foundation has been providing medical information in emergencies for over 50 years.  This partnership will focus on children with Type 1 Diabetes, populations in need of special medical attention as part of disaster preparedness, and returning veterans/wounded military.

National Diabetes Education Program (NDEP) - USA

NDEP is sponsored by the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and works to improve the treatment and outcomes for people with diabetes, promote early diagnosis, and prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes. LCI partnered with NDEP to co-brand educational resources for community awareness and education.  Many other resources can be downloaded from the NDEP website.

National Eye Institute / National Eye Health Education Program (NEI/NEHEP)

The National Eye Institute conducts and supports research, training, health information dissemination, and other programs with respect to blinding eye diseases, visual disorders, mechanisms of visual function, preservation of sight, and the special health problems and requirements of the blind.  Lions can find valuable resources on the NEI website to promote awareness of diabetic eye disease (retinopathy).  The Lions Eye Health Program (LEHP) offers NEI co-branded educational materials.

World Health Organization (WHO)

Lions and WHO are working together to expand diabetes education, prevention and control with particular emphasis on the prevention and treatment of diabetic eye diseases.  Visit the WHO website for more information and resources.
