Vision Partners and Vision Organizations

Lions Clubs International works in cooperation with the following vision organizations:

  • AMD (Age-Related Macular Degeneration) Alliance International: The AMD Alliance International strives to bring knowledge, help and hope to individuals and families around the world affected by AMD.

  • American Foundation for the Blind, Inc.: The American Foundation for Blind has spent nearly a century ensuring that individuals with severe vision loss have access to the information, technology, education, and legal resources they need to live independent and productive lives. The AFB has been and continues to be the engine of advancement and opportunity for every person affected by blindness or vision loss.

  • American Optometric Association (AOA): The AOA is the acknowledged leader and recognized authority for eye and vision care in the world.

  • Assistance Dogs International: Assistance Dogs International (ADI) is a coalition of not-for-profit assistance dog organizations. The purpose of ADI is to improve the areas of training, placement, and utilization of assistance dogs, staff and volunteer education, as well as educating the public about assistance dogs, and advocating for the legal rights of people with disabilities partnered with assistance dogs.

  • Canadian Association of Optometrists (CAO): CAO’S mission is to enhance the quality, availability and accessibility of vision-related health care; promote the independent and ethical decision-making of its members; and assist optometrists in practicing to the highest standards of patient care.

  • International Guide Dog Federation: The International Guide Dog Federation (IGDF) was formed in 1989. The IGDF facilitates a sharing of knowledge, experience, highest quality standards, methodologies and help for new or existing schools wanting to improve the quality of their operations. All of this is focused on improving the safe independent mobility of individuals with vision loss throughout the world.

  • National Federation of the Blind: The National Federation of the Blind (NFB) is the oldest, largest, and most influential nationwide membership organization of blind people in the United States. Founded in 1940, the NFB advocates for the civil rights and equality of blind Americans, and develops innovative education, technology, and training programs to provide the blind and those who are losing vision with the tools they need to become independent and successful.

  • National Eye Institute: NEI was established on August 16, 1968 and was the first government organization solely dedicated to research on human visual diseases and disorders. One of NEI's programs is the National Eye Health Education Program (NEHEP). Through NEHEP, the National Eye Institute conducts large-scale public and professional education programs in partnership with national organizations.

  • The Hadley School for the Blind: The Hadley School for the Blind offers courses free of charge to individuals who have severe vision loss or are blind and also to their families. Hadley has an affordable tuition for blindness professionals who enroll for courses. Today, Hadley is the largest provider of distance education for people around the world who have severe vision loss or are blind, serving more than 10,000 students annually in all 50 states and 100 countries. Hadley is also the largest educator of braille worldwide.
