At Lions International, we believe in honoring those who make the world a better place —and this year, we are proud to recognize a beacon of compassion and care: Obras Sociais Irmã Dulce (OSID).
This inspiring nonprofit organization, based in Brazil, has been named the recipient of the 2025 Lions International Humanitarian Award — our highest honor, given annually to individuals and organizations that show outstanding dedication to humanitarian efforts.
A Legacy of Love and Service
Founded by Sister Dulce, affectionately known as the “Good Angel of Brazil,” OSID has spent decades providing essential healthcare, social assistance and education to millions of people in need. From operating one of Brazil’s largest hospital complexes to offering 100% free care, the organization serves more than 3 million individuals every year.
This award is a tribute to the tireless efforts of our team and the enduring legacy of Sister Dulce, whose vision continues to guide us in our mission to serve those most in need.
Their reach includes cancer patients, the elderly, people with disabilities and craniofacial deformities, children and teens in vulnerable situations, those battling substance dependency, and individuals experiencing homelessness — always with dignity, compassion and hope.
But their mission doesn’t stop at care. OSID also invests in the future of healthcare through residency and training programs, preparing new generations of professionals to carry forward Sister Dulce’s powerful legacy.
“Obras Sociais Irmã Dulce exemplifies the true spirit of humanitarianism,” said Lions Clubs International President Fabrício Oliveira. “Their unwavering dedication to those in need mirrors our mission at Lions International. We are honored to celebrate their incredible contributions.”

Recognizing Impact
José Carvalho, chair of the OSID Board of Directors, will accept the award on behalf of the organization this July during the Lions International Convention in Orlando, Florida. The award also includes a US$500,000 grant from the Lions Clubs International Foundation, which will help support OSID’s ongoing humanitarian initiatives in Brazil.
“We are deeply honored and grateful,” said Carvalho. “This recognition is a tribute to our team's tireless efforts and to Sister Dulce’s enduring vision of love and service.”
