10 Ways to Serve Safely with Your Club

Sarah Hermann and Nicole Matia October 16, 2020

Join your fellow Lions and Leos around the world as they continue looking for new ways to safely serve their communities. Here are just a few ideas to get you started:

  1. Do you have a mobile phone, laptop or tablet to spare? Consider donating these items for student virtual learning or to nursing home residents so they can safely stay connected to family and friends.
  2. Do you speak a second language? Consider volunteering your time to translate documents or to virtually teach those learning a new language.
  3. Do you have a musical talent? Consider sharing a performance virtually to isolated groups such as nursing home residents or hospitalized pediatric patients.
  4. Who doesn’t love getting a letter in the mail? Ask local nursing homes or rehabilitation facilities if you can write to residents who may be isolated from friends and family during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
  5. Enjoy working with young people? Explore virtual tutoring opportunities for students who need extra help during remote learning mandates.
  6. Love to read? Consider recording audiobooks for the visually impaired or read to children virtually to build their love of reading and storytelling.
  7. Eager to reunite with your club members? Consider a park or forest preserve clean-up where social distancing is easy to maintain.
  8. Love to sew? Contact schools, nursing homes and social service agencies to see if they are in need of reusable masks.
  9. Enjoy working outdoors? Help neighbors in need with tasks such as yardwork, gardening, painting, etc. These activities provide a valuable service and allow social distancing.
  10. Have time to run errands? Help an isolated neighbor in need by offering to pick up medication or groceries.
