Molokai, a colony for those aflicted with leprosy, became home to a 31-member Lions club in 1948. The club brought great improvements for colony residents.
The first three Lions clubs in the Philippines received their charters in 1949, and three years later, Filipino Lions helped establish the first Lions club in Japan.
Founded in 1926, the Lions club of Tianjin (formerly Tientsin), China, stayed active until 1949. New clubs and membership have grown rapidly since 2002 when Lions returned to China.
