Understanding advocacy

At Lions International, advocacy is about taking action, and it’s a type of service that is more common than you might think. In fact, Lions and Leos engage in advocacy any time they raise awareness of the causes they care about, educate their community members on important issues and create positive change.

Awareness

Lions and Leos identify and raise awareness of the needs in the communities their clubs serve. They then increase their service impact by getting others involved.

Education

Once a need is identified, Lions and Leos learn from experts and educate their communities on these important issues, such as how to improve their health and protect the environment.

Change

Lions and Leos are equipped with resources and tools that help them advocate for changes in legislation, policy and public opinion. They establish themselves as experts in serving in their communities and with partners who can bring about positive change.
