YASUMASA FURO
INTERNATIONAL DIRECTOR
Yasumasa Furo, from Dazaifu, Japan, was elected to serve a two-year term as a director of The International Association of Lions Clubs at the association’s 92nd International Convention, held in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA, July 6-10, 2009.
Director Furo is the CEO of a confectionery manufacturer, restaurant and gallery.
A member of the Dazaifu Lions Club since 1982, he has held many offices within the association, including club director, secretary and president, district vice cabinet secretary, 6R health committee member, region chair, zone chair, committee chairperson, multiple district 337 annual convention committee vice chairperson, district governor, MERL team leader, multiple district council of governors vice chairperson, multiple district 337 council of governors chairperson, district honorary advisor, and OSEAL Forum steering committee member.
In recognition of his service to the association, he has received numerous awards including four International President Certificates of Appreciation, International Leadership Award, two International Presidential Awards, CSF II Friend of Humanity Medal, CSF II Knight of Service, 25 Year Milestone Chevron, 100% Governor Award, International President’s Award for Extension, CSF II International Chairperson Award, Constitutional Area Top Governor Award, Top Sector Coordinator within NC, Knight of Lionism Pin and a Leadership medal. He is also a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow.
In addition to his Lions activities, Director Furo is active in numerous professional and community organizations. He is currently the President of the Fukuoka Industry Promotion Association, President of the Dazaifu Tourist Association, Board Chairperson of the Dazaifu Umegae-Mochi Cooperative Association, Commissioner of the Fukuoka Tourist Federation, and a Councilor for the Fukuoka Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Kyushu National Museum Promotion Foundation. He has also received 16 awards from numerous organizations, including the Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare, the Fukuoka board of Education and the Fukuoka Sports Association, and seven Certificates of Appreciation from the Fukuoka Prefectural Governor.
Director Furo and his wife, Toshiko, have three daughters.
