Byeong-Deok Kim, from Seoul, Republic of Korea, was elected to serve a two-year term as a director of The International Association of Lions Clubs at the association’s 92nd International Convention, held in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA, July 6-10, 2009.

Director Kim works in the manufacturing industry.

A member of the Seoul Chung Woo Lions Club since 1985, he has held many offices within the association, including club president, region chair, zone chair, district governor, council chair, multiple district LCIF chair, Team 20K Coordinator and GMT Leader. He has also served as the Korea Lions Sight for Kids Program Chair and the Pyeongyang Lions Eye Hospital Supporting Committee Chair.

In recognition of his service to the association, he has received numerous awards including the District 354 D Lion of the Year Award, the President’s Certificate of Appreciation, the Leadership Award, the Presidential Award, the LCIF Friend of Humanity Award, the LCIF Humanitarian Partnership Award, the CSFII Lead Gift Donor Award and the Ambassador of Goodwill Award, the highest award the association grants to its members. He is also a Humanitarian Partner and Melvin Jones Fellow.

In addition to his Lions activities, Director Kim is active in numerous professional and community organizations, including serving as vice chairperson of the Kyungbock High School Alumni Association, vice chairperson of the Graduate School of Yonsei University Business Administration Alumni Association, senior vice chairman of Special Olympics Korea and vice chairman of Special Olympics East Asia. In the past, he served as the national director of Special Olympics Korea. He is also the recipient of two Plaques of Appreciation from the Mayor of Seoul, a Special Award from the Chairman of Afghanistan Refugee Relief Project and the 2005 Advanced Traffic Culture Award from the Ministry of Government Administration and Home Affairs.
 
Director Kim and his wife, Keum-Joo Park, have three sons.
