NEW BOOK DETAILS HISTORY OF LIONS CLUBS INTERNATIONAL

OAK BROOK, IL, USA, February 2, 2009 – “Lions Clubs in the 21st Century,” a newly released book detailing the history and success of Lions Clubs International, is now available for purchase through the association and select online retailers.

Written by Paul Martin and former LION Magazine senior editor Robert Kleinfelder, the book traces the development of Lions Clubs International from its birth in 1917 at Chicago’s LaSalle Hotel through its growth into a globally recognized humanitarian and service organization of 1.35 million members.

“This book is the story of the world’s largest voluntary service club organization, but it’s also a story of the human spirit,” said Kleinfelder. “The compassion and self-sacrifice of Lions for 90 years are an inspiration. That’s what this book is about.”

Published by AuthorHouse in late 2008, the 396-page book also delves into the success of the Lions Clubs International Foundation and the SightFirst program and SightFirst II campaign, as well as the advent of family, cyber and other new types of clubs.

“Lions Clubs in the 21st Century” is available for purchase through the Club Supplies Department of Lions Clubs International by visiting the Lions Store or calling 630-571-5466, and through select online retailers.

Lions Clubs International is the world’s largest service club organization with 1.35 million members in 45,000 clubs in more than 206 countries and geographical areas around the world. Since 1917, Lions clubs have aided the blind and visually impaired and made a strong commitment to community service and serving youth throughout the world. Learn more at www.lionsclubs.org.
