Dr. James M.
Fowler Past
International
President Dr.
James M. "Jim" Fowler, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, USA,
was elected president of The International Association
of Lions Clubs at the association's 66th annual convention
held in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA, June, 1983.
Past President Fowler
is a dental surgeon.
A Lion for more than
48 years and currently a member of the Little Rock Founders
Lions Club, he served as club president with 40 years
perfect attendance, district governor, chairman of the
council of governors, zone chairman, trustee of Lions
Clubs International Foundation and held a two-year term
as a member of the association's board of directors
from 1974-76. He is also past president and board member
of the Lions World Service for the Blind.
In recognition of his
efforts on behalf of the association, he has received
the 100%District Governor Award, the Master Key Award,
an Extension Award, ten International President's awards
and the Ambassador of Good Will Award, the highest honor
bestowed upon a member by the association. Past President
Fowler is also a Melvin Jones Fellow.
In his work with Lions
World Service for the Blind, Past President Fowler served
as chairman of the Million Dollar Expansion Program,
where a multipurpose training building was dedicated
in his name.
In addition to his service
as a Lion, Past President Fowler is a former state senator,
naval veteran of World War II and a retired colonel
in the Arkansas National Guard. He also received a Presidential
Award from the Philippine government, and Commendatore
al Merito della Republica Italiana from Dr. Sandro Pertini,
president of the Republic of Italy.
Other memberships include
the Arkansas and American Dental Associations and Omicron
Kappa Upsilon, an honorary dental fraternity. Lion Fowler
is also a past president of the National Flying Dentists
Association. A competent pilot with over 16,000 hours
experience, he flies extensively in his business and
Lions clubs activities. He is also a Mason, a Shriner
and a Sojourner.
Past President Fowler
and his wife, Agnes "Aggie," also a Melvin Jones Fellow,
have two children, Jimmy and Martha, and three grandchildren.
