YAMANDU P. ACOSTA
INTERNATIONAL DIRECTOR
Yamandu P. Acosta, from Eufaula, Alabama, USA, was elected to serve a two-year term as a director of The International Association of Lions Clubs at the association’s 93rd International Convention, held in Sydney, Australia, June 28 to July 2, 2010.
Director Acosta is a retired college professor.
A member of the Eufaula, Alabama Lions Club, and a Lion since 1970, he has held many offices within the association, including club president, zone chair, council chair, district convention chair, state convention chair, vice district governor, and district governor. He also served as chairperson of the Latin America Extension Team, a member of the School of Governors, Campaign SightFirst II Sector Coordinator for MD34, LCIF State Coordinator and has presented at the USA/Canada Forum and the FOLAC Forum.
In recognition of his service to the association, he has received numerous awards including the District 34C Tom Jones Award, World Humanitarian Award, 13 International President’s Certificates of Appreciation, eight International President’s Medals and the Ambassador of Good Will Award, the association’s highest honor. He is a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow.
In addition to his Lions activities, Director Acosta is active in numerous professional and community organizations, including serving as President of Eufaula Little Theater and as a member of the Eufaula Heritage Association, the Alabama Education Association and the National Education Association.
Director Acosta and his wife, Sylvia, also a Lion and a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow, have two daughters and four grandchildren.
