Past International President
Dr. Jean Behar
Dr. Jean Behar, of Sainte-Adresse, France, was elected president of The International Association of Lions Clubs at the association's 83rd International Convention in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA, June 19-23, 2000.
Past President Behar is a retired doctor of radiology.
A charter member of the Le Havre Expansion Lions Club, of which he has been a member since 1975, Past President Behar has held many positions within the association, including club president, zone chairperson, district governor and council chairperson. He served as an international director on the association's board of directors. Past President Behar also is a founder and honorary president of Medico Lions Club of France, an association that organizes assistance from French Lions clubs to developing countries. Past President Behar was president of the 42nd European Forum and was a representative of Lions Clubs International to UNESCO in Paris from 1994-1997 and to UNICEF in Geneva from 1995-96.
Past President Behar has received numerous awards in recognition of his service to the association, including 100% District Governor Award, Top Ten Award of Activities, eight International President's Awards and the Ambassador of Good Will Award, the highest honor the association bestows upon its members. He is also a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow.
In addition to his Lions activities, Past President Behar has been recognized by the president of France as a Knight of the National Order of Merit.
Past President Behar and his wife, Stella, have four children and eight grandchildren.
