International Relations Programs

At Lions Clubs International (LCI), we are global. That's why our International Relations programs aim to create and foster a spirit of understanding among the peoples of the world.

We initiated this goal in 1945 by helping develop the Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) charter of the United Nations. In 2008, LCI extended our international reach by signing the UN Global Compact to help fulfill the UN Millennium Development Goals. And today, international cooperation continues through Lions who are appointed to serve as representatives to:

• UN in New York, USA, Vienna, Austria and Geneva, Switzerland
• UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) in New York, USA, Geneva, Switzerland and Nairobi, Kenya
• UN Department of Public Information in New York, USA
• UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in New York, USA
• UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Paris, France
• UN Environment Programme (UNEP) in Nairobi, Kenya
• UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome, Italy
• UN NGO Committee on Narcotics and Substance Abuse in New York, USA
• UN World Health Organization (WHO) in Rome, Italy
• Council of Europe

Lions also develop international relationships on a one-to-one basis through the Club Twinning program.
