Relief for Samoa

LCIF is working with local Lions to respond to a massive tsunami that hit Samoa around dawn on September 29. The tsunami was triggered by a powerful earthquake, measuring between 8.0 and 8.3. More than 168 people died with many more missing in Samoa, American Samoa and Tonga. LCIF has awarded two US$10,000 emergency grants for relief efforts.

Approximately NZ$30,000 was donated by New Zealand Lions clubs and Australian Lions sent A$10,000. LCIF and Lions funding provided for clothing, bedding and kitchen supplies to be shipped, as well as four packs of building timber along with school exercise books, pens, pencils and reading books for children.
