White House Recognizes Lions
Lions Are Champions of Change
“The White House Champions of Change program honors everyday Americans doing extraordinary things in their communities.” – whitehouse.gov/champions
On October 2, the White House recognized 11 Lions club members selected to represent Lions in the U.S. as Champions of Change. Lions serve across the country and the globe, wherever help is needed, making every Lion a Champion of Change.
Lions are Champions of …
- Community: Lions participate in hands-on service projects that help improve local schools, shelters, food pantries, playgrounds, community facilities and more.
- Sight: Lions work to prevent blindness, restore eyesight and improve eye health and care for millions of people worldwide.
- Environment: Lions plant trees, recycle, clean the environment and educate others to protect the planet.
- Youth: Lions implement targeted, creative projects to meet the needs of millions of local children in 46,000 communities in more than 200 countries.
- Health: Lions support local and large-scale global health programs that focus on sight, hearing, diabetes, breast cancer and more.
- Disaster Relief: When a natural disaster strikes, Lions are among the first to offer volunteer disaster relief.
Program Highlights
The event at the White House included:
- White House Community Leaders Briefing: Lions were briefed by government officials from the U.S. Department of Education, Federal Emergency Management Agency, U.S. Agency for International Development and members of the administration.
- Champions of Change Panel: Two panels were held in the afternoon, and Lions discussed their efforts to make our communities more sustainable.
