President’s Service Blog: Lions World Sight Day in Japan

World Sight Day Every year in October, we celebrate Lions World Sight Day by sponsoring an international event that focuses on preventing blindness and preserving sight. International President Sid Scruggs traveled to Osaka, Japan to celebrate this year’s event on October 7-8, 2010. During the festivities, Lions from District 335-B sponsored several activities, including outreach events at the Nippon Lighthouse for the Blind and inaugurating a new feature for visually impaired visitors at a local zoo. Read the President’s Service Blog for a behind-the-scenes look at this inspiring event.

2011 Lions Day with the UN in New York and Nairobi

The 33rd annual Lions Day with the UN (LDUN) will take place on March 18, 2011 in New York City. The event will feature an appearance by International President Scruggs, Past International President Wroblewski, UN ambassadors/speakers and the International Peace Poster Contest award ceremony. This year, we will also have a satellite event in Kenya hosted by First Vice President Wing-Kun Tam, and featuring Lions work aligned with UN agencies in Nairobi. Visit the LDUN Web page for more information.

"Engaging Our Youth" Campaign Results

Engaging Our Youth

During the Engaging Our Youth Global Service Action Campaign in August, Lions organized projects youth can relate to – and encouraged their input in the planning process. We’re pleased to report that more than 850 Lions clubs in 60 countries took part in this campaign to mobilize youth to help their communities. We received reports of more than 1,200 projects, totaling more than 87,000 Lion service hours that gave local youth a chance to learn valuable life skills while emphasizing the role of service. Learn more information about our Global Service Action Campaigns.

New Club Branch Officer Structure

The Club Branch program offers individuals who see a need to help their community, but have less than 20 members, the chance to form a club branch with five or more members. On July 1, 2010, the Lions Clubs International Board of Directors approved an officer structure to help prepare club branches to convert to traditional Lions clubs. The new structure allows club branches to elect a president, secretary and treasurer. For more information, contact the Membership Programs and New Clubs Marketing Department.
