This April, join Lions around the world and protect the environment. Planning an environmental project is a great opportunity to invite your family and friends to engage in hands-on service. Organize a community clean-up, plant a tree, or plan a recycling project to collect old eyeglasses, batteries or small electronics -- you decide based on the needs in your community.
Use the following resources to plan and promote your Protecting our Environment Global Service Action Campaign project:
World Immunization Week is April 24–30. In celebration, LCIF has launched a 30-day challenge to raise US$1 million for the One Shot, One Life: Lions Measles Initiative. Donations made for measles during the month of April 2014 will be matched 100% by the family of Abhey and Aruna Oswal, for a total of up to US$500,000.
Visit www.lcif.org to learn how to make your contribution today! Donations to the Lions Measles Initiative are Melvin Jones Fellowship eligible (excluding funds provided by the match).
Lions are invited to attend the Leo Lion Summit on July 4 -- the first day of the Lions International Convention in Toronto, Canada. The summit will bring together Leos and Lions from around the world to share experiences, celebrate successes and learn about exciting new resources that will be unveiled during the event.
Not involved in the Leo Club Program yet? Come to the summit to find out how your Lions club can support youth development. Register for the Leo Lion Summit when submitting your convention registration form and join us on July 4!
Next month, Lions clubs around the world are encouraged to engage their communities through eyeglass collection projects. Getting involved is easy! Educate your community about the Recycle for Sight program by showing the 10-minute film, "New Glasses, New Life." Establish new collection locations at schools, places of worship, businesses, etc. Check your existing locations to make sure your collection containers are fresh, attractive and emptied on a regular basis.
Visit the Recycle For Sight page for more information or to order supplies to begin or enhance your collection campaign. And don’t forget to promote the need for usable reading glasses and sunglasses, as well.
