The Lions Youth Exchange Program was officially instituted by the Lions Clubs International Board of Directors in 1961 to further promote the first Object of Lionism: To create and foster a spirit of understanding among peoples of the world.

To inform local youth (ages 15-22) about the Lions International Youth Camp and Exchange Program, some clubs or districts organize essay contests to select participants. Or, clubs may consider distributing notices to:
