Recognizing Lions Eye Bank Week

print

eye bank logo Lions Eye Bank Week, celebrated the first full week in December, provides a special opportunity for Lions to emphasize the valuable services provided by a Lions eye bank.

Today, Lions clubs support 53 Lions eye banks located in eight countries. To celebrate Lions Eye Bank Week and honor the contributions of Lions in this valuable sight-saving program, clubs are encouraged to:

  • Tour the eye bank
  • Invite a speaker from the eye bank to a club or district event
  • Host or assist with an open house at the eye bank
  • Organize a donor awareness event
  • Inform the public of the service provided by the Lions eye bank
  • Organize a fundraiser for their local eye bank

(Lions are welcome to celebrate Lions Eye Bank Week at the designated time; or at a time when it is best for their schedule.)

Establishing a New Lions Eye Bank

Lions can begin a new eye bank by:

  • Determining interest and support of a new Lions eye bank from the established medical community, e.g. a hospital or university school of medicine's department of ophthalmology
  • Obtaining Board Policy for the Lions Clubs International Eye Bank Program
  • Calculating the cost of establishing, equipping, and operating a Lions eye bank. (Clubs should also consider possible fundraising projects.)
  • Contacting the Legal Division at Lions Clubs International, 300 W. 22nd Street, Oak Brook, Illinois, USA, 60523-8842 for authorization to use the Lions name and/or emblem
  • Electing a board of directors from among Lions in good standing
