A children's symposium is an effective way for Lions to develop collaborative relationships with governmental agencies, health care organizations, educators and others involved with providing aid to underprivileged children. Lions can determine the types of services that are needed and various ways to get involved – by implementing new Lions projects or providing assistance to local programs currently in place.
Children's symposiums have been held in many countries around the world, including: United States, Venezuela, Brazil, Paraguay, Iceland, Germany, England, Poland, Turkey, Philippines, China, Thailand, India, Mexico, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Australia, South Africa, Trinidad and Tobago.
To help alleviate costs, Lions Clubs International provides expense assistance for one (1) symposium per constitutional area and the continent of Africa, per fiscal year. The program allows for up to US$2,000 per symposium. Applications are approved on a first-come, first-served basis. Funds are approved for the organization of a symposium or conference that will promote activities supportive of Lions' health and education services for children in need. A district or multiple district may apply by submitting the "Lions Services for Children Symposium Application" (LSC-9). Please review the Rules of Audit (LSC-18) that have been developed for this program.
The LSC chairperson can play an important role in helping to organize and coordinate a children's symposium. He or she can work with a team of district or multiple district chairpersons, including the public relations, international relations, diabetes, sight, hearing, Leo and Lions Quest chairpersons.
