LCI Is Going Green

print

Lions have made a strong commitment to preserving the environment for more than 30 years.  Clubs illustrate this through their unwavering engagement in service projects that address important environmental challenges and improve the communities in which they live.

During the 2011-2012 fiscal year Lions reported planting over 15 million trees. Every tree planted by Lions was part of a large scale effort by members around the world to make a significant impact on the environment.

Although the tree planting campaign is over, Lions can continue to build on the momentum by helping LCI go green. The following are a few examples of the changes we are making and how Lions can get involved.

Going Paperless

Paper makes up 29 percent of municipal solid waste and increases greenhouse gas emissions, which are bad for the environment. Opting out of receiving paper statements is a sustainable, free and easy way of reducing environmental waste.

Here are the many paperless options we provide:

Benefits of Going Paperless

  • It’s Fast! You can retrieve all the LCI statements you need online in a matter of minutes.

  • It’s Convenient! You can view your statements and submit your reports online. You will never have to worry about missing your payment or report deadline due to postal delays.

  • It’s Sustainable! Going paperless is an important way to preserve the environment and protect the millionsof trees that have been planted.

Other Ways You Can Help…

There are many ways that Lions can help make their communities a little greener:

  • Form a Green Team. Forming a Lions Green Team will allow your club to organize more service projects and help educate your community about the importance of preserving and protecting the environment.

  • Plant (more) Trees. Trees play an important role in sustaining a healthy environment and benefit millions of people who depend on them for their livelihood.

  • Recycle. Recycling is one of the best ways of ensuring environmental sustainability through the reduction of waste.

  • Raise Environmental Awareness. Once you have a green team in place you can start raising awareness and educating your community about the importance of environmental sustainability.
