Environmental Issues
Environmental issues are closely tied to Lions’ humanitarian work and have had a profound effect on the well-being of communities around the world. Changes in the biophysical environment pose new challenges related to food security, human health, economic development, and world peace. The environment is an important component of global efforts to fight poverty and is one of the key focal points of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has identified six priority areas that require immediate action by the global community:
With a global network of 45,000 clubs and 1.35 million members, Lions can play an important role in addressing the various threats to the human environment. Lions have already dedicated millions of hours to environmental projects and have proven that even a small action can make a big difference.
