Ecosystem Management

An ecosystem is a network of plants, animals and people, microorganisms and their nonliving environment. The well-being of people is closely related to the health of ecosystems, as we rely on them for a variety of resources and services, such as timber, food and water, and climate regulation.  Because of the interdependence of all the elements in an ecosystem, it is important to protect all of its components.

How Lions Can Help

  • Educate your community about the importance of protecting ecosystems

  • Organize projects to protect endangered animals or plants

  • Head an initiative to eliminate invasive species in your local environment

This UNEP fact sheet provides additional information about ecosystem management.
