Millions of children suffer with poverty and hunger, abandonment, poor water and sanitation, poor health care, chronic illness, disabilities, lack of education, lack of immunization and many more life-threatening conditions. The Lions Services for Children Program (adopted in 2003) aims to improve the lives of children and young adolescents in adverse circumstances through health and education services, locally and internationally. |
 |
District governors can appoint a district Lions Services for Children chairperson. Lions clubs can appoint a Lions Services for Children chairperson. An attractive, colorful program brochure provides and overview of the Lions Services for Children Program.
Lions' participation in the program can begin by assessing the needs of children in the community. These needs may include:
- Food, shelter or clothing
- Vision and hearing screenings
- Immunizations
- Assistance in coping with illnesses or disabilities
- Information about proper nutrition
- Drug and alcohol abuse education
- Literacy programs
- Vocational training
The Lions Services for Children Community Needs Assessment form (IAD-304) is a valuable resource to help every Lions club or district identify local children living in adverse circumstances. Lions are encouraged to consult with specialists such as administrators at hospitals, schools, youth service organizations and local health care professionals to determine the most serious needs of children and young adolescents
