Participants and host families should attend an orientation meeting with their sponsor or host club and/or youth camp and exchange chairperson. Parents should be encouraged to attend orientation with the participant, where appropriate.

Topics can include:

• cultural tolerance
• cultural adaptation (including host family relations)
• host family role
• rules and logistics, along with other pertinent information about Lions Clubs
• role of sponsor Lions club and host Lions club and districts
• travel
• passports
• visas
• immunizations
• insurance
• money
