Host Lions clubs work closely with their district Lions youth camp and exchange (YCE) chairperson. The responsibilities of the host Lions clubs are to: youth camp

  • arrange for financing all costs related to the board and lodging of camp participants with camp committee (during a host family stay board and lodging are undertaken by the host family.)
  • select and provide orientation for host families.
  • maintain communications between the participant, sponsor Lions club, host family, and YCE chairperson.
  • provide local transportation to events organized by the host Lions club.
  • ensure that Lions International Youth Camp and Exchange Program policies are followed.
  • ensure compliance with local laws governing youth protection.

Recruiting Host Families
The host club recruits qualified host families from the Lions club and non-Lions. Requirements for host families include:

  • persons who are in contact with youth of the same approximate age as the participant.
  • knowledge of the participant's language.
  • knowledge of Lions clubs and the goals of the Lions International Youth Camp and Exchange Program.
  • adequate space in their home and finances to provide meals for a visitor.

Host Lions clubs often coordinate special events for participants. Host families should be informed of the activities, which may include:

  • a welcome party
  • an outing with the local Leo club or attendance at a Lions meeting.
  • a sightseeing outing, day trip to an amusement park, seaside outing, etc.

Host Lions Clubs and Camp Organization

  • Host Lions (with YCE chairperson assistance) who are organizing a camp must verify that the camp applicants have sufficient accident, life, personal property, health and liability insurance. (See Board Policy.)
  • Camp organizers shall provide activities that fulfill the objectives of the program, which are to:
    • bring people from different countries into meaningful contact with each other.
    • permit the sharing of ideas, ideals and cultural viewpoints.
    • promote international understanding and goodwill, and work toward the goals of world peace and human understanding.
    • encourage respect in young people for the thinking of others.
