Lions Services for Children Recommended Activities
- UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund) School-in-a-Box ProgramMore than 120 million children worldwide lack the opportunity to attend school. Lions Clubs International is working with UNICEF to address the education needs of children where schooling has been disrupted by wars and other calamities. Lions, through a designated donation to LCIF, can provide a School-in-a-Box. Each box includes school supplies for an instructor and 80 students.
- SODIS Each year, more than four billion cases of diarrhea result in 2.2 million deaths, mostly among children less than five years of age. SODIS is a simple and inexpensive water disinfection method that can alleviate this problem. In 2004, Lions Clubs International signed a collaborative agreement with the Swiss Federal Institute of Environmental Science and Technology which developed the SODIS method of water disinfection. Clubs and districts, through cooperation with Lions in countries with high incidences of water-borne diseases like diarrhea or through medical missions can address the health needs of children by educating people about SODIS.
