Leo Chairperson Responsibilities

District Leo chairpersons often organize seminars for Lions clubs that are interested in sponsoring Leo clubs.

The basic seminar format is divided into four 10-20 minute segments presented by four different speakers.

1.  The Leo Club Program speaker discusses:

  • the responsibilities accepted by the Leo club sponsor;
  • program policies,
  • objectives;
  • the obligations of the Leo club advisor.

2.  The second presenter explains the procedures involved in organizing a Leo club such as:

  • working with a local school, youth group, or house of worship;
  • understanding the financial obligations of Leo club sponsorship;
  • the importance of submitting Leo reports to international headquarters.

3. The third presenter introduces basic Leo club functions including:

  • suggestions for projects and activities;
  • club membership requirements;
  • the payment of club dues;
  • the establishment of a convenient meeting day, time, and location;
  • the importance of maintaining good relations with the Lions club sponsor.

4.  The final speaker stresses the importance of the Leo club advisor. This presenter (usually an experienced Leo advisor, chairperson, or other person involved in the Leo Club Program) emphasizes that the Leo advisor is essential for successful Leo clubs.
