Prescriptions are filled as requests are received from Lions clubs in Lions Multiple District 410. The center receives recycled eyeglasses from the Republic of South Africa, Germany, Scandanavia, the United Kingdom, and Australia. A full-time staff cleans, grades and stocks recycled spectacles. In most cases, a handling fee of US$10 is charged. Often, two pairs of eyeglasses are supplied, one for reading and one for distance. If an appropriate prescription is not in stock, Lions Operation BrightSight will purchase new lenses to satisfy the request. The center is currently working on a major eye screening project in conjunction with the South African Optometric Association. |
