In January, 2004, the Centro Italiano Lions Per La Raccolta Degli Occhiali Usati became the 12th Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center (LERC). Eyeglasses from the center have been distributed to needy persons in: Tanzania, the refugee camps of the Saharawi population in Algeria, and Belarus.

The center was officially inaugurated on February 17, 2004 by Lions Clubs International President, Dr. Tae-Sup "T.S." Lee.

The center signed an Agreement Protocol with the Association Health Solidarity. The Agreement will coordinate the resources and functions of both organizations and will ensure that used eyeglasses are prepared and delivered free-of-charge to needy persons. It also assures the distribution of used eyeglasses by Lions clubs, doctors, or religious centers only.
