The Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) below are designed to help you utilize the Lions Clubs International Web site.

I'm visually impaired and I use Window-Eyes Pro screen reader software to view the Lions Web site. I'm having trouble reading PDF files. What can I do?

Most likely, the Window-Eyes Pro software is trying to load the PDF files in your browser rather than through the Adobe Acrobat Reader. According to the software developer, your Windows-Eyes Pro software does not allow that. It's a limitation of the Adobe Acrobat Reader software. In order to read PDF files, you'll need to do the following:

1)  Open your Adobe Acrobat Reader software
2)  Press Ctrl + K (two keys at the same time)
3)  This will open a preferences window
4)  In the left margin, select Internet
5)  Inside the Web Browser Options window, un-check the box marked "Display PDF in browser"
6)  Save the changes and exit Adobe Acrobat Reader
7)  Go to the Lions Web site and you should be able to read PDF files

How can I print the entire page from the site? (When I try to print, the page margins get cut off.)

This is an issue related to your browser (Netscape or Internet Explorer) and your screen resolution. You can change the page orientation of your browser by going to the "File" drop down menu located in the browser tool bar and selecting "Page Setup." Change the orientation from Portrait to Landscape.

Note - You can also click on the "Printer Friendly Version" button at the top of most pages and get a clean version of the page for printing purposes. For pages without the "Printer Friendly Version" button you may want to print out a "Text Only" version of any page by clicking on the Text Only link on the left hand side of the page and navigating to the page you want to print. (This link appears on the very bottom of the left hand side along with the Contact Us, Site Map and Select a Language options.)

I am trying to download PDF files and having difficulty. Any suggestions?

In order to download and view a publication, you must have Adobe Acrobat Reader, version 4.0 or above. It is available free of charge. Visit the download instructions page for a link (in multiple languages). Download instructions for other file formats (EPS, JPEG, TIF, etc.) appear here as well.

If you are still having difficulty, try downloading a PDF file from another site. If you experience problems outside of this site, you will need to contact your Internet provider or computer manufacturer's customer service department.

I am having difficulty viewing the slide shows.

The slide shows use Flash 6 technology. You can download Flash 6 free-of-charge.

Sometimes when I print a PDF file, the font is too small to read. Can I make the font larger?

You can't change the PDF file format. However, there is something you can do. Some PDF files should be printed on paper that is larger than the standard 8.5 x 11 inch paper. To print on larger paper, open the PDF file, select the "File" drop down menu located in the browser tool bar and select "Print." Then select the "Properties" button and a printer tray that contains larger paper (such as legal size). You can also manually feed in a larger paper size.

Sometimes when I click on a link, nothing happens. Why?

There are many types of links on the Lions Web site. Some link to other pages or PDF files within the Lions Web site and some link to external Web sites. Some links open pop-up windows. First you need to identify what type of link is not working on your computer.

If you can't link to any PDF files, you probably need to download Adobe Acrobat (see above). If you're having trouble linking to an external Web site, the site may be down or the URL may have changed. If you're having trouble linking to a pop-up window such as in the Club Locator, you may have to change settings in your browser, your pop-up blocker software, firewall software or anti-virus software. The easiest way to check is to "temporarily" turn off those different pieces of software (one at a time) and continue trying the pop-up link. Once you have determined which software program is stopping you from viewing the files you need, contact the technical support personnel for that software for help in changing the settings.

What is a podcast?

A podcast is an audio or video file that is distributed electronically through the internet to be played on computers (PCs and Macs) and on multimedia players, such as iPods and other MP3 players. Most podcasts, including LQ podcasts, are free of charge.

How do I access LQ podcasts?

You can now download LQ podcasts from LNN by clicking on the iTunes button next to the LQ episode you wish to add. This will take you to the iTunes site where you can download the episode directly to your computer, as well as to your portable player. Download iTunes software free of charge from the Apple Web site.

Click the Subscribe button on the iTunes site to automatically receive all future Lions videos as they are added. By subscribing, future editions of these podcasts will automatically be downloaded to your computer and available for you to view.

What is RSS?

RSS is a Web feed format used for distributing information. Using RSS reader software, such as Firefox or SharpReader, enables you to click an RSS button to have information, including future editions of LQ, automatically downloaded to your computer as it becomes available.
