Every member of your club needs to participate in an orientation. For newer members, an orientation should take place soon after induction. For established members, an orientation can be offered as a refresher.

 How to lead an orientation

1. Pick a speaker or speakers to lead the orientation. The speaker (s)could be a club president, club membership chair, sponsor, an orientation chair or other interested Lion.  Speakers should be dynamic and clear, ready to interact with members, and ready to field questions.

2. Follow a specific agenda. (For more information on agendas, see the  Orientation Guide, ME-13.)

3. Consider the amount and kind of information needed in an orientation. Ask yourself: What information was helpful to me as a new member? Is there anything my fellow Lions wish they would have known when beginning or renewing their membership?

4. Use the Orientation Guide (ME-13) as an outline on how to structure the presentation and as a guideline for what information to present.

5. Hand out the ME-13 series (ME-13B-F) for members’ use during the orientation.
