Retaining existing Lions is vital to the success of any club.  Generally, members are retained because they are satisfied with some aspect of being involved, whether that be their participation or the validation they feel after a job well done.

Some questions to ask about member retention and satisfaction may include:

  • Does my club follow up with its members to see if they are satisfied?
  • Does my club develop new programs for members' participation?
  • Is my club valued in the local community? If not, why not?

Below you will find links to resources to assist your club in retaining members. Use the retention tactic that works best for your club; just remember that members enable you to make a difference in the community.

The "President's Retention Campaign" discusses the four most common reasons that a member is not retained… poor meeting quality, lack of involvement, the formation of club politics and not working together.

The "How Are Your Ratings" questionnaire (ME15b) assists clubs in identifying their strengths and weaknesses.

The "How Are Your Ratings" administrative guide (ME15) assists club presidents with evaluating their club.

The Mentoring Program is an excellent way to retain members.  The mentoring program pairs an existing Lion with a new member, aiming to develop and retain both members.

For more information on retention programs, as well as to order retention publications, e-mail the Membership Operations Department or call (630) 571-5466, ext. 340.
