Each year a club decides on what projects and events it will focus. Inviting new members is essential to a club achieving its goals. New members can provide your club with fresh ideas, new projects and additional ways to make a difference. Before inviting a new member into your club, ask yourself the following questions:

  • What is my motivation for inviting new members?
  • How many members does my club need to achieve its goals?
  • Are there additional projects or events needed in my community that would attract a new set of prospective members?

Answering the above questions will help you determine how to field  prospective members' questions. (Remember that your presentation to a prospective member will help determine their attitude towards your club.)

There are many ways to invite new members to be a part of your club. Maybe your club makes a list of prospective members, holds a membership drive or employs a combination of activities. Check out the winning Best Practices Entries for some additional membership invitation ideas.

Below you will find resources that may assist you when inviting members.

Lions Make a Difference (ME-40) describes what local community members can accomplish as a Lion and offers a detachable reply card that can be completed by the prospective member. Preview the Web version of  the publication. Order the brochure from the Membership Operations Department.

I am a Lion  (ME-37) highlights women in Lions club worldwide and addresses prospective member questions such as “What are the time commitments involved with being a Lion?”

Lions Fact Sheet showcases the diversity of our membership--listing the various programs in which Lions participate--and provides a snapshot of our Lions clubs worldwide.

Filling out the Membership Application (ME-6b) brings the prospective member one step closer to becoming a new member.

Worldwide Induction Day provides details on one of Lions’ largest membership recruitment activities.

The Year Round Growth Program (YRG-15) and Membership Key Award Program (ME-36) discuss some of the specific awards that recruiting Lions can receive.

For more information on any of the above programs, including how to order membership publications, e-mail the Membership Operations Department or call (630) 571-5466, ext. 340.
