The World Health Organization estimates that 278 million people have moderate to profound hearing loss in both ears. Yet, current annual production of hearing aids is estimated to meet less than 10% of the global need.

The Lions Hearing Aid Recycling Program (HARP) enables Lions to provide affordable hearing aids for hard-of-hearing individuals who have limited financial resources.

Program Objectives
To establish an international hearing aid recycling program to promote the collection, refurbishing and distribution of donated hearing aids.

  • To provide clubs with a means of providing hearing aid assistance at an affordable cost.
  • To promote communication among Lions who collect used hearing aids.
  • To closely identify Lions with hearing aid recycling and distribution.
  • To facilitate the international expansion of the Lions Clubs International Hearing Aid Recycling Program.

Hearing Aid Recycling Centers
Lions maintain hearing aid recycling centers in Canada, Denmark and the United States. To view a list of the recycling centers, click here.

HARP Promotional Resources
New resources are available for your club to promote hearing aid recycling and increase public participation in your community. To order the new HARP brochure and collection container label, send an e-mail to: programs@lionsclubs.org. A sample press release is also available.
