Town Times (Connecticut, USA) May 2, 2008--Watertown Lions look to take to the Crestbrook Park Golf Course for their third annual golf tournament. All proceeds raised by the tournament will go to fund the activities of the Watertown Lions Club such as their recent health fair, food baskets for the needy at Easter, scholarships to academic and trade schools, Watertown Food Bank, senior pancake breakfast and local youth sports.
Timmins Daily Press (Ontario, Canada) April 27, 2008--Schumacher Lions hosted their 61st annual Sportman's Show in Timmins. Retailers in the fishing, hunting and outdoor recreation retail businesses displayed their latest products to outdoor enthusiasts.
Kennebec Journal (Maine, USA) April 27, 2008--Manchester Lions and the Manchester Fire Department hosted their eighth annual free dinner for residents of the town 73 years and older. The event included a performance by a local comedian.
Vicksburg Post (Mississippi, USA) April 27, 2008--Lion Roy Turcotte shares his story of recovery from a stroke and bypass surgery last year. Turcotte encourages other seniors to eat properly and exercise, and to keep an eye out for the symptoms of an oncoming stroke.
Miramichi Leader (New Brunswick, Canada) April 23, 2008--New Brunswick Premier Shawn Graham declared April 21 Lions Appreciation Day in New Brunswick in honor and recognition of the work of Lions in New Brunswick and around the world. Several club members present in the legislative gallery for the presentation were recognized.
Republican and Herald (Pennsylvania, USA) April 23, 2008--Porter-Tower Lions are looking to sponsor a Leo club. The club has held five Leo club rallies to gauge the interest of area youth while also discussing service project opportunities.
The Valley Item (Pennsylvania, USA) April 22, 2008--The Perkasie Borough city council voted 7-2 in favor of allowing the Perkasie Lions Club to repair the wading pool located in the borough's Second Street Park/Kulp Playground area. The council selected the club, which originally built the pool and also repaired it in 1984, because the club said it would repair the pool charging the borough only for materials. The estimated cost for repairs from the club was $3,000 to $5,000.
St. Cloud Times (Minnesota, USA) April 22, 2008--The Sartell Lions Club is preparing to have a spring cleanup to help residents get rid of items such as computer components, car batteries, fluorescent bulbs, tires, construction waste, appliances and furniture.
Polk County Democrat (Florida, USA) April 22, 2008--The Bartow Lions Club gears up for its annual golf tournament. Competitors will dine on a steak dinner at the clubhouse and have a chance at $1,000 in match play.
VietnamNet Bridge (Hanoi, Vietnam) April 22, 2008--Lions Clubs of Thailand will donate $30,000 to build houses for the poor in Vietnam. During a reception for Lions Clubs Thailand in Hanoi on April 21, Vietnam Fatherland Front Vice President Vu Trong Kim praised Lions charitable activities, including an eye disease prevention program in Vietnam.
Bellingen Shire Courier Sun (Bellingen, Australia) April 22, 2008--Lions clubs in Australia prepare to support a Bicycle Users Group trans-Australian fund-raising ride. Pledges for the ride will support the Royal Flying Doctors Service of Australia.
Latrobe Valley Express (Latrobe Valley, Australia) April 22, 2008--Australian Pam Haigh is profiled as one of four visually impaired riders who participated in the Lions Ride for Sight, a four-day bicycle ride designed to raise money for research into eye diseases. Lions, Lioness and Leo Clubs from the Gippsland and Mornington Peninsula regions have been holding the Latrobe Health Lions Ride for Sight since 1994. Last year the ride raised more than $50,000 and since 2004 funds have been donated to the Centre for Eye Research Australia through the Lions Eye Health Program to fund a fellowship which supports promising young researchers.
Sun Star (Manila, Philippines) April 18, 2008--Baguio city announced it will be the site of the 59th annual Multiple District 301 convention in May. The convention will feature seminars about service and leadership, as well as a golf tournament, parade and tours.

The club gives about $15,000 to $20,000 CAN to the community each year. Southland Times (Queenstown, New Zealand) March 24, 2008--Invercargill South Lions pitched in $2,200 for the purchase of a motorized scooter for an area man with spina bifida who works a newspaper route. Toronto Star (Ontario, Canada) March 23, 2008--Toronto Lions host the Easter Beaches parade. The club anticipated 2,000 participants, 13 floats, 16 bands, 46 motorized vehicles and more than 100 animals to take part in the procession.
The Tribune (Texas, USA) March 19, 2008--Great weather helped the Humble Lions club draw more than 1,000 riders for their sixth annual Lions Bike Ride. Funds from the event go to support the Texas Lions Children's camp in Kerville.
Macon Chronicle-Herald (Missouri, USA) March 18, 2008--Macon Lions get ready to host their 71st annual Easter Egg Hunt at the Macon County Fairgrounds. Organizers will stash 5,000 pieces of candy throughout the grounds.
Monessen Valley Independent (Pennsylvania, USA) March 16, 2008--Monessen Lions donated $2,000 to the Monessen High School marching band program. The donation has helped spur renewed interest in the band, whose ranks had dwindled to 18 members last year.
Sheridan County Journal Star (Nebraska, USA) March 12, 2008--Gordon Lions Club President Frank Ferguson received the topaz award on behalf of the club. Club members earned the award by raising and pledging money toward Campaign SightFirst II.
CD 98.9 Radio (Simcoe, Canada) March 11, 2008--Jarvis Lions donated $3,000 to the Intensive Care Unit Redevelopment Project as part of the club's effort to support Norfolk General Hospital Foundation's "Have A Heart" campaign. The club donates $17,000 annually to community projects and causes. Bay City Times (Michigan, USA) March 11, 2008--Bay City Lions and Rotarians announced a team effort to collect new and lightly used duffle bags and suitcases to donate to children in the state of Michigan's foster care system. Saugus Advertiser (Massachusetts, USA) March 10, 2008--Saugus Lions announce the formation of a Leo club at Saugus high school. Hagerstown Morning Herald (Maryland, USA)--Clear Spring Lions prepare to host their 57th annual minstrel/variety show. Proceeds supports projects such as scholarship awards, eye examinations and eyeglasses for needy children, Girl and Boy Scout programs, Little League baseball and youth soccer.
Lubbock Online (Texas, USA) February 25, 2008--Lubbock Lions drew more than 16,000 to their 56th annual pancake breakfast at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center. The club got help from over 900 volunteers, many of them from fraternities and sororities at Texas Tech. The club was attempting to break the record for most pancakes flipped, which the Kiwanis had set merely two weeks prior. McKinney Courier Gazette (Texas, USA) February 25, 2008--McKinney Lions recognized Taylor Douthit and Kaci McCraw as their students of the month. McCraw--captain of the cheerleading team--and Douthit--captain of the football team--were inducted into the National Honors Society last year. Alamogordo Daily News (New Mexico, USA) February 22, 2008--Alamogordo Lions Club President Chuck Galusha earned the Service to Mankind honors from the newspaper for his service with the downtown club for over 12 years. He is an ardent support of New Mexico Lions Operation KidSight.
Nova News Now (Nova Scotia, Canada) February 19, 2008--Yarmouth Lions collect books to send to Canadian troops in Afghanistan. The club received a large donation of books from the Western Counties Regional library to spur its efforts. Bru Direct (Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei) February 18, 2008--Belait and Bandar Seri Begawan Lions clubs make a donation to the Seria senior citizen's home. Both clubs have supported the home with donations of electrical items and furniture in the past.
Reno Gazette Journal (Nevada, USA) February 14, 2008--Fernley-Wadsworth Lions hosted a fund-raiser motocross race at their motocross track to assist victims of a Jan. 5 flood in Fernley. Nevada Old Timers Motocross Club organized the event, which hosted 360 riders and raised $4,000 for the relief fund.
Hagerstown Morning Herald (Maryland, USA) February 13, 2008--Funkstown Lions celebrated their 50th anniversary, hosting a buffet dinner and a speech from PIP Clement Kusiak. The club also awarded a Melvin Jones Fellowship to club member Gail Mongan. The Daily Advertiser (Louisiana, USA) February 11, 2008--The New Roads Lions hosted their 65th annual Mardi Gras carnival parade, welcoming 30 floats and 13 marching bands to the procession. Funds from the event benefitted the schools of the marching bands that entered the parade.
Sarasota Herald-Tribune (Florida, USA) February 7, 2008--Orange Blossom Garden Lions donated $25,000 to the Southeastern Guide Dogs center. Later, Lions from District 35-O took a tour of the facility and were blindfolded for walks with guide dogs. Lancaster Eagle Gazette (Ohio, USA) February 7, 2008--Tarhe Lions announce their offering of a 2008 scholarship to eligible Fairfield County residents attending a credited college in the state of Ohio with a major in optometry, audiology or a related field of eye or diabetic research. Funds for the scholarship are derived from the annual George Bowers Memorial Golf Scramble. Easton Journal (Massachusetts, USA) February 7, 2008--Easton Lions sponsor their annual Family Skate Day at the Yardley Wood Ice Rink.
Huntington Herald Dispatch (West Virginia, USA) February 5, 2008--Local hair stylist Lou Pyles is profiled in a community paper. Pyles' involvement in the Ironton Lions Club--which raised $24,000 for three seeing-eye dogs and donated $1,000 for vision screening equipment to the Early Childhood Center--is highlighted. Leesvilled Daily Leader (Louisiana, USA) February 5, 2008--The Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce named the Leesville Lions Club the Civic Organization of the Year. The club was recognized for their support of the Louisiana Lions Camp for Children, and for their donations of scholarships to Vernon Parish students. San Jose Mercury News (California, USA) February 5, 2008--Los Gatos Lions donated $10,000 to the KCAT, the community television station headquartered at Los Gatos high school. The money was used to purchase a switcher, which will allow the production team to switch between multiple cameras while covering an event. Martinsville Bulletin (Virginia, USA) January 29, 2008--Martinsville Lions take advantage of an under-utilized theater in town to host bluegrass concerts as a fundraiser for their community projects. Daily Herald (Illinois, USA) January 29, 2008--Algonquin Lions partner with a local car dealership in holding a naming contest for students age Kindergarten to third grade to find a name for the former Klutzo the clown, who performed at Algonquin civic events.
Allentown Morning Call (Pennsylvania, USA) January 28, 2008--DeSales and Center Valley colleges welcome Campus Lions clubs in light of the elimination of initiation fees and the reduction of international dues for Campus Lions. KXMZ-TV (North Dakota, USA) January 28, 2008--The Minot Lions Club's operation of an eyeglass warehouse and distribution center receives media recognition for its effort in the process of providing glasses to those in need. Lion Terry Narum--who volunteers space in his home and garage--estimates that 540,000 pair have gone through the center. Rochester Democrat and Chronicle (New York, USA) January 28, 2008--Chruchville Lions sponsor the arrival of the Cole circus in Chili. The event featured aerialists, acrobats, clowns and animals.
Clanton Advertiser (Alabama, USA) January 25, 2008--Clanton and Bayou Lions and Past International Director Lowell Bonds team up with the Bayou La Batre Fire Department to negotiate the sale of a fire truck from the town of Thorsby to Bayou La Batre for US$1. Bonds spotted the truck and Thorsby town officials made the sale offer, as the Katrina ravaged Bayou La Batre was in need of a new truck. Club members handled the transfer. Oneonta Daily Star (New York, USA) January 25, 2008--Oxford Lions reschedule their annual Perch Derby at Chenango lake because of mild temperatures resulting in thin ice. Proceeds from the derby go toward eye examinations and the Oxford Community food bank. Hansford County Reporter-Statesman (Texas, USA) January 25, 2008--PDG (D-2) James Cunningham is honored as citizen of the year 2007 in Spearman, Texas. The club honored him with a Melvin Jones Fellowship in recognition of his longstanding service.
The Evening Telegraph (Peterborough, England) January 23, 2008--Peterborough Lions Club members plan a coffee morning and exhibition in the town hall to provide an opportunity for the people of Peterborough to meet members, ask questions and find out what the club does in the community.
Darien Times (Connecticut, USA) January 22, 2008--Darien Lions plan to raffle off two Super Bowl XLII tickets to raise funds for charitable services. The club often makes donations to the Department of Ophthalmology at Yale-New Haven Hospital.
The Daily Breeze (California, USA) January 21, 2008--West Torrance Lions hosted their 43rd annual high school all-star football game in Mira Costa. High school standouts Jack Sula and Andy Magee starred in the Blue team's 26-14 victory.
Appleton Post-Crescent (Wisconsin, USA) January 20, 2008--Appleton Noon Lions presented $5,600 in grants to eight local charities, including the Fox Valley Boys and Girls Club, Harbor House Domestic Abuse Program and the Thompson Community Center.
San Mateo County Times (California, USA) January 20, 2008--Burlingame Lions donated more than $4,500 to Burlinghame high school. The club sponsored a school basketball game and donated the ticket and program sales from the event.

Club spokesperson Jim Janakes says the club goes through about a ton of crab at the event each year.
KCBY-TV (Oregon, USA) January 9, 2008--The Oregon Lions Mobile Health Unit is kicking off a visit to schools in Coos Bay. Oregon Lions will conduct hearing screenings for 400 students in the district as part of the effort, which Lions have been organizing for eight years.
Greenwich Post (Connecticut, USA) January 9, 2008--Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation executive director George Salpietro is scheduled as the guest speaker at the Greenwich Lions club meeting.
Plainview Old Bethpage Herald (New York, USA) January 8, 2008--Plainview Bethpage Lions distributed holiday food boxes to those in need in the community. The club also enlisted the help of students in Plainview and Bethpage.
About Renton (Washington, USA) January 7, 2008--Renton community leaders and residents are invited on a travel trip to visit the town's sister city, Nishiwaki, Japan, this spring. The Renton Lions Club help established Nishiwaki as Renton's sister city in 1969 to help foster goodwill and understanding between the two cities.
The Star (United Kingdom) January 5, 2008--Tickhill and District Lions donate 500 Euros to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance Charity for support of the medical evacuation unit operations of Doncaster Royal Infirmary.
LoveFM (Belize City) January 3, 2008--Belize City Lions purchase gifts and a bassinet for the first baby born in Belize City for the new year.
Cayman Net News (Cayman Islands) January 3, 2008--Grand Cayman Lions hosted a series of holiday parties at community and adult assistance centers. The club also began a fundraising effort to raise CI 20,000 for needy island residents. Lions solicited in front of stores and conducted a corporate letter-writing campaign.
The Daily News (Sri Lanka) January 3, 2008--Grandpass District 306 B2 Lions are sponsoring a "tape ball" cricket tournament hosted by the Sri Lanka Tennis Ball and Tape Ball Cricket Federation for youth cricket clubs.
Towanda Daily Review (Pennsylvania, USA) December 27, 2007--Towanda Lions distribute 79 Christmas baskets to deserving area residents in need. Club member Nick Hurley donates the fruit from his supermarket business.
TVNZ (New Zealand) December 26, 2007--Wellington City Lions host the 20th annual Auckland City mission lunch for those in need during the holiday season. More than 250 volunteers prepared lunches for 700 guests.
BBC News (UK) December 26, 2007--Aberdeen Lions host their annual Nippy Dipper Boxing Day fundraiser. "Dippers" took more than 5,000 Euros in pledges from donors, donned costumes and ran into the North Sea.
Lancaster Online (Pennsylvania, USA) December 24, 2007--Columbia Lions delivered 410 food boxes to families in and around western Lancaster County, and made the holiday of a family whose finances are strained as a result of a rare kidney disease affecting both of their young daughters.
Morpeth Herald (Morpeth, UK) December 21, 2007--Morpeth Lions held a meet-and-greet party for the area's elderly and disabled at the Riverside Social Club. The club served food and drinks to attendees, and received help in entertainment from students at the Lucy Sage Stage School, who performed at the event.
Tyler Morning Telegraph (Texas, USA) December 21, 2007--Tyler Noon Lions honor Tyler resident Lawrence Thompson with their Citizen-Hero-of-the-Year award after Thompson risked his own life to pull a neighbor from her house after it exploded.
Grand Junction Sentinel (Colorado, USA) December 20, 2007--Grand Junction Lions conducted a gift-giving operation to shop for and distribute needed items to the Catholic Outreach homeless shelter. The club also received 30 sleeping bags at a drastically discounted rate from a local equipment company.
Escanaba Daily Press (Michigan, USA) December 20, 2007--Escanaba Lions took 10 area children shopping for Christmas gifts as part of their annual "Buyin' With A Lion" event. After shopping, the club hosted a Christmas party at the local Elks Club and handed out 70 stockings and gifts to attendees.

The club and the school also held a school band concert where audience members gave a toy as admission to the show. Catossa County News (Georgia, USA) December 10, 2007--Boynton Lions take on a service project involving the care and maintenance of two cemeteries. The club does its own landscape maintenance at the sites, spending an average of $2,000 in caring for the properties. Philippine Information Agency (Manila, Philippines) December 10, 2007--Alexandria Asian-American Lions of Virginia announced they will perform a medical surgical mission at Teresita Jalandoni Memorial Provincial Hospital in Silay City in 2009. More than 40 participants will help with goiter and cataract removal as well as dental procedures for needy residents.
City of Carrollton (Texas, USA) December 10, 2007--Carrollton Evening Lions have partnered with Allied Waste Services to participate in the Great American Cleanup, a national program geared towards environmental awareness, this April.
Bastrop Daily Enterprise (Louisiana, USA) December 8, 2007--Bastrop Lions and Super 1 foods partner to hold a holiday season food drive for needy residents in Morehouse Parish.
The Journal News (New York , USA) December 5, 2007--Monsey Lions host Iraq war veteran Army Captain Corey Flannery at their annual holiday party. Flannery's platoon was the recipient of care packages from the club, which sent home-baked goods, t-shirts and personal effects to overseas troops.
