2008 Bangkok Convention Ends with Rave Reviews

Nearly 17,000 Lions attended the International Convention in Bangkok this year.  Many of them expressed their compliments to the Thai Lions on a spectacular event.  Highlights of the convention included two keynote addresses by Nobel Laureates and the success of CSF II, which raised US$200,329,000.

Minneapolis 2009

The 2009 International Convention will return to Minneapolis, Minnesota - from July 6-10.  The last convention held in Minneapolis was in 1993, with over 18,000 Lions in attendance.  We hope to see at least that many, and more, in 2009.  Attendees will discover the city of Minneapolis to be charming, with outstanding hotels and event venues, exceptional cultural institutions, and a natural beauty that has earned Minneapolis the nickname "The Land of 10,000 Lakes."  In Bloomington, just outside of Minneapolis, you will find the Mall of America, the country's largest shopping and entertainment complex with over 520 stores, 60 restaurants and an indoor theme park.

LCI's official hotels are located in both Minneapolis and Bloomington.  Complimentary shuttle service will be provided for registered attendees staying at LCI hotels to all official convention events.

Hero Awards 

A new event to recognize Lions who are making a difference in the world is on the agenda for 2009.  A gala Hero Awards Banquet will take place on Thursday, July 9 at the Minneapolis Convention Center.  A Lion, a club, a district, or a project can be nominated for the Hero Award.  Tickets may be purchased through the online registration system or on LCI's Convention Registration Form.

 "Good Vibrations"

... are in store for convention attendees this year.  The International Show will feature one of the defining sounds of a generation - the vocal harmonies of the Beach Boys.  A personal favorite of our international president and many Lions, the Beach Boys will perform at the Minneapolis Convention Center on Tuesday night, July 7, in what is sure to be a fun and entertaining evening for all convention attendees.  From "Surfin' USA" to "Kokomo" their songs have stood the test of time and are still enjoyed today by audiences of all ages.  A complimentary ticket to the International Show is included with each convention registration.
