International Director Dr. Nelson VidalDr. Nelson Vidal

Dr. Nelson Vidal from Lima, Peru, was elected to serve a two-year term as a director of The International Association of Lions Clubs at the association’s 90th International Convention, held in Chicago, Illinois, USA, July 2-6, 2007.

Director Vidal is a surgeon.

A member of the La Oroya Lions Club since 1977, Director Vidal has held many offices within the association, including club president, district governor and council chairperson. Additionally he served as chairperson of Membership, Leadership, Extension, LCIF and SightFirst. He has also participated as a member of MERL, DGE seminar faculty member, speaker at the 1994 international convention, and instructor at Leadership Institutes and MERL seminars.

In recognition of his service to the association, Director Vidal has received numerous awards, including the Club President’s Award, a Master Key Award, the 100% District Governor’s Award, the District Governor’s Extension Award, a Membership Growth Award, the New Horizons Award, a Past District Governor Lighten the Path Award, seven International President’s Certificates of Appreciation, an International Leadership Medal and an International President’s Medal. He is also a Melvin Jones Fellow.

In addition to his Lions activities, Director Vidal is active in numerous professional and community organizations. He is a member of the University of Peru’s Public Health Committee and a founder of the Lions Medical Center Parraquial de la Oroya. He is also the recipient of a Medical School Service Award and a merit award from The Commission of Social Matters (CIAS) of Peru.

Director Vidal and his wife, Gris, also a Lion, have two children.
