Georgios J. Nicolaides

Georgios J. Nicolaides of Nicosia, Cyprus, was elected to serve a two-year term as a director of The International Association of Lions Clubs at the association’s 89th International Convention, held in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, June 30-July 4, 2006.

Director Nicolaides is a retired architect and civil engineer. He is currently a real estate developer.

A member of the Nicosia Lions Club since 1963, Director Nicolaides has held many offices within the association, including club secretary, club president, zone chair and district governor. He is the chairperson of the Lions Education Academy, coordinator of education seminars and workshops, LCIF Multiple District Coordinator and Recycle for Sight Campaign Coordinator. Additionally, he has served as editor of THE LION Magazine in Greek and is the author and publisher of the “Lion Manual” in Greek.

In recognition of his service to the association he has received numerous awards, including the 100% Club President Award, 100% District Governor Award, 32 District Governor Appreciation Awards, District Lion of the Year, three International President’s Medals, three International President’s Certificates, four International President’s Leadership Medals of Appreciation, International President’s Leadership Award and the Ambassador of Good Will Award, the highest honor the association grants its members. Director Nicolaides also holds the Senior Master Key Award for enrolling 41 new members into Lions clubs and is a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow.

In addition to his Lions activities, Director Nicolaides is active in numerous professional and community organizations, including serving as president of Special Olympics Cyprus; founder and executive chair of the Lions Care for Youth Foundation, which aids abandoned and unprotected children; and CEO of the Christos St. Ioannou Foundation, which provides rehabilitation for mentally disabled. He is also a member of the Cyprus Civil Engineers & Architects Association and Save the Architectural Heritage of Cyprus Association.

Director Nicolaides and his wife, Mary, a member of the Nicosia-Kyrenia Lioness Club, have three children, who are all Lions clubs members, and two grandchildren.
