Vara Prasad Chigurupati
Vara Prasad Chigurupati, of Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, India, was elected to serve a two-year term as a director of The International Association of Lions Clubs at the association's 86th International Convention, held in Denver, Colorado, USA, June 30-July 4, 2003.
Director Chigurupati is the founder and chairperson of a group of educational institutions.
A member of the Vijayawada Velagapudi Ram Naga Lions Club since 1985, Director Chigurupati has held many offices within the association, including club president, district governor and multiple council treasurer. Additionally he has served as chairperson for both the Lions District Service Trust and the Lions District Office Trust.
In recognition of his service to the association he has received numerous awards, including the club Best Lion Award, two 100% Attendance Awards, the Best Lion of the District Award, the Multiple Membership Growth Award, the International President's Medal, the International President's Leadership Award and two International President's Certificates of Appreciation. He is also a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow.
In addition to his Lion activities, Director Chigurupati is active in numerous professional and community organizations, including serving as principal of the Sri Krishnaveni Educational Academy in Vijayawada and as chairperson of Janasikshan Samsthan in Hyderabad. In the past, he served as secretary of the Teaching Staff Association at VRS Engineering College in Vijayawada and as chairperson of the Students Union at JNTU Engineering College in Anantapur.
Director Chigurupati and his wife, Manju Vani, also a Lion, have two daughters.
