Lowell J. Bonds Lowell J. Bonds

Lowell J. Bonds, of Hoover, Alabama, USA, was elected to serve a two-year term as a director of The International Association of Lions Clubs at the association's 86th International Convention, held in Denver, Colorado, USA, June 30-July 4, 2003.

Director Bonds is a business owner and real estate investor.

A member of the Birmingham Lions Club since 1973, Director Bonds has held many offices within the association, including club president, zone chair, cabinet secretary and district governor. On the multiple district level, he served as Council of Governors chair, Past District Governor Organization president, Leadership Development chair, Impact Team leader, Lions Opportunities for Youth Fund director and more. In addition, he served as 2001 international board appointee to the Leadership Committee, vice chair of the 1999 USA/Canada Leadership Forum Host Committee, Habitat for Humanity Pilot Project chair and faculty member of the Southeast Lions Leadership Institute.

In recognition of his service to the association he has received numerous awards, including the club Lion of the Year Award, the 100% Club President Award, the district Lion of the Year Award, the Guiding Lion Award, the Alabama Sight Founders Award, the Henry and Lucille Sweet Outstanding Past District Governor Award, the 100% District Governor's Award, the Extension Award, sixteen Key Awards, six International President's Certificates of Appreciation, three International Leadership Awards, three International President's Awards and the Ambassador of Good Will Award, the highest honor bestowed upon association members. He is also a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow.

In addition to his Lion activities, Director Bonds, a graduate of Auburn University, is active in numerous professional and community organizations, including serving as trustee and secretary of the University of South Alabama Foundation, advisory board member of the University of Alabama in Birmingham School of Optometry and board member of Camp Sealy Harris Diabetic Youth Camp. In the past, he served as an advisory board member of the Alabama Eye Bank and was president of the industrial development board and chair of the zoning board of the city of Jemison, Alabama.

Director Bonds and his wife, Carolyn, also a Melvin Jones Fellow, have one son, also a Lion and Melvin Jones Fellow, one daughter-in-law, also a Lion, and one granddaughter.
