Lions Quest named on California Department of Education, California Healthy Kids Resource Center Science-Based Programs List

Oak Brook, Illinois, USA, November 26, 2007 - The proven ability of Lions Quest programs to prevent youth drug use, violence and disruptive behavior, has once again been evaluated and acknowledged. Lions Quest Skills for Adolescence (SFA) has been listed on the California Department of Education Science-Based Programs List.

The California Department of Education maintains strict criteria for allowing programs to appear on the list.  First, the program must be determined effective by one of the following agencies; California Healthy Kids Resource Center (CHKRC), Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence (CSPV), or National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs and Practices (NREPP). Second, these evaluated or rated programs must also prevent alcohol, tobacco or drug use, disruptive behavior and violence, and target students in one or more grades K-12.  Lions Quest SFA has been named a Model Program, as listed by NREPP, and most recently, appears on the CHKRC Research-Validated Programs list.

The California Healthy Kids Resource Center, administered by the California Department of Education and the California Department of Public Health, was created to encourage schools throughout California to establish stimulating and effective health education programs and to provide accurate and sound information about health issues. While all of the programs available from CHKRC are research-based, the agency states that a limited number of programs have demonstrated the level of credible evidence of effectiveness that identifies them as research-validated.  Lions Quest SFA has earned this identification.

Lions Quest is a schools-based life-skills program for children from kindergarten to 12th grade. More than 11 million youths have taken part in a Lions Quest classroom, and more than 350,000 educators and other adults have been trained to implement the programs in school and community settings. The program has drawn rave reviews from educators and high ratings from government agencies. Lions Quest programs meet all 10 guidelines for effective prevention programs issued by the U.S. Department of Education.
