Lion in Kenya Makes Largest Donation to LCIF
Oak Brook, Illinois, USA, June 6, 2007—Kanubhai Babla, a member of the Lions Club of Mombasi Pwani in Kenya, made the largest individual donation in LCIF history in May. Babla pledged a total of US$600,000 to Campaign SightFirst II.
For his donation, Babla will be presented with a Humanitarian Partner award at the Melvin Jones Fellows luncheon on Thursday, July 5 during the Lions Clubs International Convention. His name will also join the list of Humanitarian Partners displayed at Lions Clubs International Headquarters.
Babla is active in his community, supporting the Lions SightFirst Eye Hospital in Loresha, Nairobi, as well as the Lions Eye and Blood Centre in Mombasa. He is also involved in sponsoring and organizing cataract eye camps in Kenya.
Campaign SightFirst II is a coordinated, global fund-raising effort involving all 1.3 million Lions in more than 45,000 clubs to raise US$150 million for the SightFirst program. SightFirst was launched by Lions in 1989 to battle preventable blindness and is Lions’ most ambitious and most successful initiative ever. Thanks to SightFirst, Lions have restored sight to 7 million people through cataract surgeries, prevented serious vision loss for 20 million people and improved eye care services for hundreds of millions.

Lions Clubs International Foundation is Lions helping Lions serve the world. Donations provide funding in the form of grants to financially assist Lions districts with large-scale humanitarian projects that are too extensive for Lions to finance on their own. The Foundation aids Lions in making a greater impact in their local communities, as well as around the world. Through LCIF, Lions ease pain and suffering and bring healing and hope to people worldwide.
