Lions Clubs International Foundation prides itself on giving grants to Lions to enable them to respond locally to disasters. LCIF awards nearly US$2 million in emergency grant funds each year for Lions to help their community.

In the case of the Myanmar Cyclone, LCIF has been unable to directly respond as there are no Lions clubs in Myanmar to oversee the distribution of goods and ensure those in the most need receive assistance.   LCIF has reached out to clubs in neighboring countries, and learned that their activities are also limited given the current environment in Myanmar.

Thailand Lions have collected supplies and sent one shipment of food, medicine and clothing.  However, even the Thai Lions are having difficulty getting into Myanmar given the current political climate. The Thai Lions are hoping to establish a partnership with a local organization to oversee the distribution of these goods.

Multiple District 101, Sweden, launched the project "Bring Quality to Life" in cooperation with the Swedish Rescue service Agency (SRSA). They are sending 144 one-family tents and blankets to the area hardest hit by the cyclone, which the SRSA and Red Cross will distribute to those in need.

At this time LCIF is not accepting designated donations to this disaster given these circumstances. LCIF remains in constant contact with Lions in Asia, and should the situation change, we will post that information on this Web page.
