Contact: For Immediate Release CNN and Other Media Outlets Cite LCIF and Lions' Tsunami Relief Efforts OAK BROOK, Illinois, USA, December 26, 2006 — Two years following the devastating Tsunami that struck on December 26, 2004, LCIF and Lions have made considerable progress, allocating all US$15 million donated for relief efforts and constructing 3,000 homes, schools, hospitals, and orphanages in Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Thailand and India. LCIF and Lions' response did not go unnoticed. Surrounding the second anniversary, LCIF received a flurry of media coverage. President Jimmy Ross appeared on CNN International on December 26 as well as WGN Radio, a nationally syndicated program, and CBS Chicago. President Ross was also interviewed by CBS in Lubbock, Texas as well as the Lubbock Avalanche Journal and San Antonio Express newspapers in Texas International Director Russell Sarver, Illinois, was on the ABC Chicago news on December 26. Two LCIF staff members were interviewed for television segments, one on WGN on December 25 and the other for December 26 on CBS Chicago. The Chicago Tribune ran a story on December 27 about Lions and LCIF's relief efforts over the last two years to help rebuild areas in four countries in South Asia. Additionally, four Chicago, Illinois, newspapers ran stories about LCIF's response to the disaster. The Philanthropy News Digest, a not-for-profit trade publication, reported on the work accomplished by LCIF and Lions. A synopsis of each news story is available online. ### |
