When catastrophes of major proportions strike that affects thousands of people, LCIF responds with grants for as much as US$1 million (and a minimum of US$50,000) for long-term reconstruction projects as well as for immediate needs. LCIF awarded major catastrophe grants in response to the South Asian Tsunami in December 2004, Hurricane Katrina in the U.S. in September 2005 and severe flooding in India in August 2006.
