SUNIL WATAWALA
INTERNATIONAL DIRECTOR
Sunil Watawala, from Katana, Western Province, Sri Lanka, was elected to serve a two-year term as a director of The International Association of Lions Clubs at the association’s 94th International Convention, held in Seattle, Washington, USA, July 4 to July 8, 2011.
Director Watawala is the chairperson and managing director of the Siriyangani Desiccated Coconut Mills (Pvt) Ltd. and chairperson of the Mahaweli Coconut Plantations Ltd.
A member of the Negombo Host Lions Club since 1969, he has held many offices within the association, including club president, multiple district council chair, district governor, board appointee and district governor elect group leader.
In recognition of his service to the association, he has received several awards, including the club’s 100% Presidents Award and 100% Attendance Award for 41 years, as well as the 100% District Governors Award and Lions International Ambassador of Goodwill Award.
He is a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow.
In addition to his Lions activities, Director Watawala is past president of the Sri Lanka Desiccated Coconut Millers Association.
Director Watawala and his wife, Manel, also a Lion have two children and three grandchildren.
