INTERNATIONAL DIRECTOR
Joe Al Picone, from Brenham, Texas USA, was elected to serve a two-year term as a director of The International Association of Lions Clubs at the association’s 94th International Convention, held in Seattle, Washington, USA, July 4-8, 2011.
Director Picone is the President and CEO of the Blinn College Foundation.
A member of the Brenham Evening Lions Club, and a Lion since 1966, he has held many offices within the association, including club president, district governor, council chair, state membership chair and state Campus Club chair. He also served as a member of the host committee for the Ft. Worth, Texas Forum, chair of the Texas Lions Long-Range Planning Committee, chair of the Texas Lions Camp by-laws committee and president of the Past District Governors Association.
In recognition of his service to the association, he has received numerous awards including the 100% District Governor Award, Harry Reasonover Award, two International President’s Certificates of Appreciation, two International President’s medals, an International President’s Leadership Award, the Supreme Extension Award, an International Key Award and the Ambassador of Goodwill Award, the highest honor the association gives to its members. He was also inducted into the Texas Lions Hall of Fame and is a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow.
In addition to his Lions activities, Director Picone is active in numerous professional and community organizations, including serving as chair of a city Planning and Zoning Commission. He has also served as president of the Board of City Development, the Washington County Chamber of Commerce and local March of Dimes and United Way organizations. He was inducted into the Brenham High School Hall of Fame and the Blinn College Hall of Fame. He has received numerous honors, including the Washington County Man of the Year Award and being named to the Phi Theta Kappa International Hall of Honor and the Brenham Maifest Hall of Fame.
Director Picone and his wife, Merle, also a Lion, have two sons and one granddaughter.
