INTERNATIONAL DIRECTOR

John A. Harper, from Cheyenne, Wyoming, USA, was elected to serve a two-year term as a director of The International Association of Lions Clubs at the association’s 95th International Convention, held in Busan, Korea June 22-26, 2012.

Director Harper is a retired senior deputy administrator for the Division of Public Health.

A member of the Cheyenne Sunrise Lions Club since 1979, he has held many offices within the association, including club president, zone chair, region chair, district governor, council secretary, cabinet secretary, LEHP Coordinator, District Diabetes Committee chair and Single District LCIF Coordinator. He also served as a Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Institute Foundation trustee, RMLEIF trustee and advisor, Ex-officio Allen H. Stewart Lions Camp, Lions of Wyoming Foundation trustee and District 15 Summit Committee member and chair. 

In recognition of his service to the association, he has received numerous awards including the Lions of Wyoming Foundation Silver Lion Award from the Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Institute Foundation, 100% District Governor Award and an International President's Letter of Commendation. He is also a Melvin Jones Fellow.

In addition to his Lions activities, Director Harper is active in numerous professional and community organizations, including Wyoming Protection and Advocacy, Inc., Wyoming Public Employees Association, Wyoming Public Health Association and Wyoming Seat Belt Coalition. He has also been a member of International Food Service Executives Association, Wyoming School Business Officials, Wyoming Safe Kids, Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs, the Wyoming Governor's Developmental Disabilities Council, the Wyoming Child Care Certification Board and a founding member of the Wyoming Health Resources Council and the Rocky Mountain Public Health Education Consortium.

Director Harper has also received numerous honors and awards, including the Donor Alliance Donate Life Award, the Rocky Mountain Public Health Education Consortium Outstanding Service Award and Donor Alliance recognition for creating the Wyoming Cares/Wyoming Shares and Wyoming's Donor Registry.
